Valentine’s Gifts Survey Results

Survey: 1 in 4 stalk Ex’s on Social. Mixed-County Lovers Happier.

We asked Irish consumers about their attitudes and expectations of romance and gifts in the run up to Valentine’s Day this Saturday.

An average Irish consumer will be forking out €35 on their partners this weekend. They’ll be spending it on a card (60%) chocolates (27%) flowers (24%) and wine (24%). Only 4% of consumers said they would buy their partner lingerie.

67% of people who hail from the same county as their partner say they’re romantically satisfied – this increases to 78% when their partner is from a different county – a significant 11% difference!

3 out of 10 Irish people treat Valentine’s Day the “same as any other day”, 61% plan on having a romantic meal at home or in a restaurant. Only 11% will be planning a “lie-in” this Saturday.

24% of Irish lovers said they have checked up on an ex-partner on Facebook or Instagram over the past year. 20% admit to using social media to stalk/research a crush.
